ARF offers a variety of ways you can help animals and people. The work ARF accomplishes every year would not be possible without the generous contributions of its teens. By joining a team of dedicated teen volunteers, you will be helping ARF in its mission to provide the resources and support necessary to build lifelong relationships between people and pets.

ARF is looking for patient and caring students to join the ARF team and help both animals and people. Interested students should be:

  • Respectful
  • Responsible
  • Committed
  • Compassionate
  • Motivated

ARF Teen Volunteers must commit to working at least three hours per month for a minimum of six months. To become ARF volunteers, students must attend training sessions, complete assessments, and abide by all ARF protocols

For a short term volunteer commitment for pre-teens and teens, please consider participating in Community Service. For additional pre-teen options, please see Camp ARF.

If you have any questions about teen training, please contact us at peopleconnect@arf.net or 925.296.3142.

Full or partial scholarships available to low income families.

Teen Volunteers (Grades 9 – 12)

ARF is excited to offer a training program to high school students who have an interest in learning more about animal rescue and caring for shelter animals. Teen volunteers will spend two hours per week at ARF and learn about making a difference in a variety of ways:

  • Shelter Essentials – complete the necessary tasks in support of ARF animals
  • Cat and Dog Care – ensure the comfort and care of ARF cats and dogs
  • Birthday Parties and Learning Center Tours – assist in educating children about the responsibilities of pet guardianship
  • Service Learning – participate in a group project which will benefit ARF animals or animals in the community
  • Leadership – be a mentor and share your love of animals with junior volunteers and new teen volunteers

Register OnlineDuring the school year, volunteer training is eight weeks. ARF offers an accelerated five day program during school holidays and summer. To become ARF volunteers, teens must attend training sessions and pass assessments. A one-time fee of $250 covers the entire training program and materials.
