ARF All StarsĀ®
Availability: Monday - Friday, times by arrangement
Length: Lessons are a minimum one hour each day. An hour and 15 minutes is preferred for the program to be most effective.
Fee: $10 per child. Scholarships available for Title One schools.

  • The ARF All StarsĀ® program is a multi-day humane education course that emphasizes the value of companion animals in society and instructs children as to their care. Utilizing a unique ā€œfoster careā€ model with plush toy animals, children learn to understand and provide for a pet's needs. By calculating the cost of veterinary and animal necessities, students come to realize the expense of having a companion animal. They also learn dog bite prevention, cat and dog behavior, the importance of spay/neuter, and positive training reinforcements. Students discover what it takes to become a good pet guardian. Read more for an overview of the program.

ARF Kind Kids After-School Enrichment Program
Grades 1-5
Availability: Monday - Friday afternoons, times by arrangement.
Length: Eight weekly 1-hour sessions
Fee: $100 per child

  • ARF offers after-school enrichment classes at several local elementary schools. Students learn about animal companionship, pet care and behavior while having fun. Each week focuses on a different pet related topic and through hands-on activities, crafts and games, children learn the value and responsibility of being a pet guardian. Each session includes a visit by a canine/feline member of ARF's Pet Hug Pack therapy animal team. To schedule please contact 925.296.3152.

Classroom Presentations

  • Good Sense
    (Grades K-5)
People and animals see, hear, smell, touch, and taste. This presentation gives students the opportunity to explore the similarities and differences between human and animal senses.
  • Dog Safety
    (Grades K-5)
This presentation features an ARF Canine Good Citizen, who, along with the instructor, teaches the class about canine body language, so students can read canine signs of fear, anger, or joy and become more dog savvy.
  • Cats are Cool!
    (Grades K-5)
Cats are often misunderstood and many myths surround these wonderful animals. Students will learn about feline communication, intelligence, and overall needs. This presentation features a visiting ARF cat.
