Adoption Program at a Glance
Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation’s (ARF) adoption program is designed to create forever families. Adopting a companion animal is a lifetime commitment and ARF’s adoption specialists work with potential adopters to ensure the best possible match, and to provide information and resources needed to begin life with a new friend. ARF doesn’t place animals on hold, but completes adoptions with the first qualified household. An adoption takes approximately one hour to complete and potential adoptors should arrive early and allocate the appropriate amount of time needed for a successful adoption.
To complete an adoption, the animal’s primary caregiver must be present. Bringing a new companion animal into the family is a decision which requires careful consideration. ARF asks adopters to make a commitment for the life of the animal so it’s important all family members and resident canines (if adopting another canine) are compatible with one another. ARF adoption specialists can facilitate a meet and greet with the resident dog at ARF’s facility during adoption hours. ARF encourages children 16 years or younger and resident dogs to be present throughout the adoption process.
ARF and Nestle Purina PetCare Company, Inc. (Purina) have a special Pets for Seniors program. Senior dog and cat adopters, 60 years and older have the opportunity to receive a $50 discount when bringing a new family member home.

Potential adopters residing outside the San Francisco Bay Area should contact their local rescue organization or animal shelter listed in the government pages of the phone book for assistance. ARF will place an animal with a family living outside the San Francisco Bay Area; however the adopter must still meet the animal and complete the adoption process in person at ARF's shelter. ARF does not adopt animals without a personal interview and ARF does not ship animals.
