Rescue

The ARF Rescue Patrol visits the public shelters in Contra Costa and the Central Valley looking for dogs and cats suitable for re-homing who have run out of time and will be killed. The rescued animals are taken back ARF's Walnut Creek headquarters where they are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and temperament tested before meeting with potential adopters.

All of ARF's guidelines and procedures revolve around the philosophies of ARF's co-founders, Tony and Elaine La Russa. Every animal ARF takes in is guaranteed loving care. Each cat and dog is given the medical care and vaccinations they need and spayed or neutered before being made available for adoption.

If the rescued animals are too young to be spayed or neutered, or is pregnant, they are placed in foster homes and cared for by valuable ARF volunteers. Once they are ready to be altered, they return to ARF for surgery and recovery, and are ready to be adopted into their new home. ARF is always interested in recruiting more Foster Volunteers to expand its ability to save animals' lives.

Specially trained volunteers and staff, called adoption specialists, interview prospective guardians and help them find their perfect companion.
